ONE-TIME SETUP

Set it once. Then forget the setup exists.

Install the companion for your Mac or Windows PC, scan one private QR from your iPhone, iPad or Android device, and enable one MIDI input in your DAW. Normal sessions need none of the setup tools.

WHAT YOU NEED

  • Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 13+ or x64 PC running updated Windows 11 24H2+
  • iPhone/iPad running iOS/iPadOS 17+, or an Android 7+ phone/tablet
  • A DAW that supports MIDI mapping and automation recording
  • Both devices on the same trusted Wi-Fi network, with VPNs off during pairing

Install the desktop companion

  1. Open the disk image and drag Glide into Applications.
  2. Open Applications → Glide and allow local-network access if asked.
  3. Look for Glide's slider icon in the Mac menu bar.

Windows 11 x64 beta 5

  1. Double-click the downloaded Setup.exe. Nothing needs to be extracted.
  2. If Microsoft SmartScreen appears, choose More info → Run anyway.
  3. When Windows Firewall asks, allow GlideRuntime on Private networks only.
  4. The phone setup page opens automatically. Glide then stays beside the Windows clock or under ^.

The Mac release is signed and notarised. View its release manifest and checksum. Windows Beta 5 is not yet code-signed, so download it only from this official page. If you are not comfortable approving Windows' warning, wait for the signed release. View the Windows release manifest and checksum.

Pair your phone or tablet

  1. On Mac, choose Glide menu → Set Up Phone. On Windows, double-click the Glide tray icon or open Start → Glide → Glide Setup.
  2. In Glide, open pairing. iOS/iPadOS 1.1 says Scan Companion QR; Android says Scan Desktop QR.
  3. Allow Camera and local-network access when the mobile operating system asks.
  4. Scan the private QR and wait for Glide to show Ready.

The QR contains a private local pairing key. Do not post, forward or include it in a screenshot.

Enable Glide in your DAW

On Mac, choose Glide Automation. On Windows, choose Glide Automation (B). Then follow the DAW-specific workflow below.

ABLETON LIVE

  1. Open Settings → Link, Tempo & MIDI.
  2. Find the Glide input under MIDI Ports.
  3. Set Track ON, Sync OFF, Remote ON and MPE OFF.
  4. Set Takeover Mode to None.

  1. Open Logic Pro → Control Surfaces → Controller Assignments.
  2. Open Expert View and turn on Learn Mode.
  3. Select the destination parameter and move the mapped Glide control.
  4. Turn Learn Mode off when finished.

  1. Open Options → MIDI settings.
  2. Select the Glide input, enable it and use Generic Controller.
  3. Right-click the destination control and choose Link to controller.
  4. Move the mapped Glide control and accept the assignment.

OTHER DAWS

  1. Open MIDI input, controller or remote-control settings.
  2. Enable the Glide input for MIDI Learn or controller assignment.
  3. Select a destination parameter and use the matching Map button in Glide.
  4. Arm automation and record a short test pass.

Menu names and automation modes vary by DAW.

Map the first parameter

  1. Choose Spring, Fader or X · Y in Glide.
  2. Enter your DAW's MIDI Learn or controller-assignment mode and select the plug-in or mixer parameter.
  3. Tap the matching MAP SPRING, MAP FADER, MAP X or MAP Y button.
  4. Exit mapping mode, arm automation, record and move.

In Ableton Live, press Cmd-M on Mac or Ctrl-M on Windows to enter and exit MIDI Map Mode.

Open your DAW. Open Glide. Map when needed and record.
